A Call to Submission and Humility

A Call to Submission and Humility Why do you experience conflict and fighting among yourselves? The source is your own internal desires that wage war within you. You want things you don't have, leading you to destructive acts, even figuratively "killing." You intensely desire possessions but fail to obtain them, resulting in arguments and strife. A key reason for your lack is that you neglect to ask God. And when you do ask, you don't receive because your motives are flawed—you intend to spend what you get solely on your own selfish pleasures. O, unfaithful people! Do you not understand that choosing the riches of the world is tantamount to making oneself an enemy of God? Consequently, whoever makes himself rich in this world constitutes himself an enemy of God. Does Scripture suggest, without foundation, that God ardently yearns for the spirit He has placed within us? Yet, He grants us an even greater favor. That is why Scripture declares: “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore, commit yourselves to God. Stand firm against the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will, in turn, draw near to you. Cleanse your actions, you who are sinners, and purify your intentions, you who are indecisive. Express deep sorrow, grief, and lamentation. Transform your careless laughter into sadness and your shallow joy into seriousness. Humbly bow yourselves before the Lord, and He will elevate you.
