Warning: All you people
Warning: all you peoples
Give ear, all you inhabitants of the world, young and old, rich and poor!
I listen to the phrases that inspire me:
Why should I fear in days of calamity, when the iniquity of my adversaries envelops me?
The wicked trust in their possessions, And boast of their great wealth.
They cannot redeem themselves, Nor give God the price of redemption.
The redemption of their souls is dear and will never take place; They won't live forever, They won't avoid the sight of the pit.
Because they will see it:
the wise die, The foolish and the stupid also perish. And they leave their possessions to others.
They imagine that their dwellings will be eternal, That their dwellings will last from age to age, they whose names are honored on earth.
But the man who is in the spotlight does not last, he is like the animals that are slaughtered.
Such is their way, their madness, And those who follow them delight in their conversation.
Like a herd they are brought into Hades, Death feeds them, And soon the upright men trample them underfoot, Their beauty fades, Hades is their home.
But God will save my soul from Hades Because he will take me under his protection.
Do not be in fear because a man grows rich, Because the treasures of his house multiply;
For he takes nothing away by dying, His treasures do not descend after him. He will be able to consider himself happy during his life, You will be able to be praised for the pleasures you give yourself, You will nevertheless go to the house of your fathers, who will never see the light again.
The man who is in honor, and who has no intelligence, is like animals that are slaughtered.
