By David Isaac, World Israel News “There won’t be a joint capital in Jerusalem even in 1,000 years,” Minister of Education Naftali Bennett said Tuesday. The Jewish Home Party Chairman made his comments in reaction to reports yesterday that U.S. President Donald Trump said he was ready to get “tough” with Netanyahu just as he got tough with the Palestinians. The president reportedly made these statements to French President Emmanuel Macron during the U.N. General Assembly meeting last month. There were about 10 buses awaiting migrants along the highway between Tapachula and Ciudad Hidalgo and the drivers had been instructed to carry the migrants to shelters in Tapachula, the officers said. It was unclear how many of the group were from the migrant caravan and how many were Mexicans who joined the march. One migrant, a 20-year-old Honduran named William, told CNN he crossed into Mexico via a float that carried him across the muddy Suchiate River on Saturday.

Biscayne Park, FL, cop sent to prison for false arrests of black men | Miami Herald BY JAY WEAVER jweaver@miamiherald.com LINKEDIN GOOGLE+ PINTEREST REDDIT PRINT ORDER REPRINT OF THIS STORY October 18, 2018 11:53 AM Updated 1 hour 42 minutes ago Five years ago, Guillermo Ravelo was a rookie cop in Biscayne Park when he framed a Haitian man for a pair of home burglaries under orders from the police chief. Ravelo then pinned five unsolved vehicle break-ins on an innocent black man — again because the town’s police chief, Raimundo Atesiano, ordered him to do it to boost his department’s clearance rate for property crimes. Between those false arrests, Ravelo slugged a handcuffed Hispanic man after he was stopped for a broken tail light while driving through the suburban town north of Miami. On Thursday, the 37-year-old Ravelo faced his own punishment when a federal judge sentenced him to two years and three months of prison for conspiring to violate the civil rights of the two ...

Florida building code left Panhandle vulnerable to big storms | Miami Herald

Florida building code left Panhandle vulnerable to big storms | Miami Herald BY ANDRES VIGLUCCI, DAVID OVALLE, CAITLIN OSTROFF AND NICHOLAS NEHAMAS Updated October 13, 2018 01:43 PM The devastation wrought by Hurricane Michael may have exposed a weak spot in Florida’s lauded statewide building code, among the strongest anywhere when it comes to windstorms: Across much of the Panhandle, the rules may not be tough enough. That’s because the code’s requirements for wind resistance vary widely by location. And while they’re most rigorous in famously hurricane-prone South Florida, they taper down the farther north you move along the peninsula. In most of the Panhandle, the code requirements are significantly less stringent. To illustrate the differences: Under the statewide code, most new structures in Miami-Dade County, including homes and office buildings, must be designed to withstand winds around 175 miles an hour, said John Pistorino, a veteran Miami structural engineer who ...

Thousands of people in hurricane zone haven’t been located | Miami Herald

Thousands of people in hurricane zone haven’t been located | Miami Herald TALLAHASSEE  It’s Day 2 after Hurricane Michael made landfall, and search and rescue is still under way, state emergency officials said Friday morning — as more emphasis is beginning to shift to the “search.” Thousands of people have been informally reported missing to local authorities, the Red Cross and the state, as people look for their friends and relatives. The Florida Panhandle is largely populated by small towns, spread out across dense, forested areas, which has only worsened post-disaster communications problems when cellphone towers and internet services go out. Locating people was a top priority for emergency crews on Friday. Officials said they similarly received inquiries about thousands of people who were missing in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Irma last year as crews fanned out across the Keys to reduce that number. However, Alan Harris, Seminole County Emergency Management Director...

Keyser was named by Ford as one of the people who was at the 1982 party where she alleges that Kavanaugh assaulted her.

Senate narrowly approves Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court, cementing conservative majority - Los Angeles Times

Senate narrowly approves Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court, cementing conservative majority - Los Angeles Times The Senate on Saturday narrowly confirmed Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, capping a tumultuous confirmation process marked by partisan rancor, tearful testimony and tense allegations of sexual assault and bad faith. Kavanaugh was confirmed 50-48-1, the narrowest margin in modern history. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who opposed the nomination, voted present to balance out a fellow Republican who could not attend but wanted to vote “yes.” Kavanaugh’s confirmation – once considered certain, only to be upended by multiple allegations of sexual misconduct over the last three weeks – will mark a major political victory for President Trump and his Republican backers, who are on the cusp of cementing a conservative majority on the nation’s highest court. Both parties bemoaned a broken confirmation process – albeit for different reasons – that could have a lasting effect...

San Francisco judge suspends Trump administration's decision to end protected status for hundreds of thousands of immigrants - Los Angeles Times

San Francisco judge suspends Trump administration's decision to end protected status for hundreds of thousands of immigrants - Los Angeles Times Ramos v. Nielsen  was filed in the Northern District of California. At a Sept. 25 hearing, lawyers asked the judge to temporarily block the terminations so that residents of the affected countries won’t be deported while the case plays out in court. More than 1,000 Sudanese immigrants would have been at risk of deportation if the first scheduled TPS termination took place Nov. 2. TPS is a form of humanitarian relief granted to countries devastated by natural disasters or war that allows beneficiaries to work legally while they remain in the U.S. Created in 1990, the program applies to people from  10 countries.  But the Trump administration has announced the termination of TPS for 98% of those who have it, many of whom have lived in the U.S. for decades. After the lawsuit was filed, Trump also cancelled TPS for Honduras and Nep...
