Trump Calls Sessions’s Handling of Surveillance Abuse Allegations ‘Disgraceful’ - The New York Times

Trump Calls Sessions’s Handling of Surveillance Abuse Allegations ‘Disgraceful’ - The New York Times WASHINGTON — The long-simmering friction between President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions erupted into an extraordinary public face-off on Wednesday as the investigation into Russia’s election interference roiled the administration and raised new questions about the independence of law enforcement agencies. Mr. Trump excoriated Mr. Sessions for not ordering his own investigation into the handling of the Russia inquiry during its early months,  calling his attorney general “DISGRACEFUL” in a lacerating Twitter post . Mr. Sessions, who has absorbed blows from the White House since last year mostly in silence, responded with a rare statement defending his “integrity and honor.” The back-and-forth, unthinkable in previous administrations, came during a week of unrest at the White House. As the president railed about the special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s Russia investi...

Justices Turn Down Trump’s Appeal in ‘Dreamers’ Case - The New York Times

Justices Turn Down Trump’s Appeal in ‘Dreamers’ Case - The New York Times WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday declined to clear the way for the Trump administration to end the Obama-era program that protects about 700,000 young immigrants from deportation, meaning that the so-called “Dreamers” could remain in legal limbo for months unless Congress acts to make their status permanent. President Trump ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA , program last September , calling it an unconstitutional use of executive power by his predecessor and reviving the threat of deportation for immigrants who had been brought to the United States illegally as young children. But two federal judges have ordered the administration to maintain major pieces of the program while legal challenges move forward, notably by requiring the administration to allow people enrolled in it to renew their protected status. The Supreme Court’s decision on Monday not to hear the government’s app...

Billy Graham, 'America's Pastor' And Noted Evangelist, Dead At 99

Billy Graham, 'America's Pastor' And Noted Evangelist, Dead At 99 Graham  viewed the Bible as the infallible word of God . He believed that Jesus led a sinless life and that all men were lost and would face God’s judgment. Most importantly, he was convinced he must use “every modern means of communication available” to spread the Gospel throughout the world, and did so in print, on radio and television, online and in person. Graham’s sermons  promoted evangelism  and  railed against “godless communism,”  drugs, sex and violence. And for the next five decades, his electric personality connected with audiences in  more than 185 countries . Graham was the first evangelist of note to speak behind the Iron Curtain, and during the Apartheid era he refused to visit South Africa until the government allowed integrated seating at his events. He  published dozens of best-selling books , including  Angels: God’s Secret Agents  and  The Jesus Gene...

Florida school shooting: The FBI said it was warned about suspect Nikolas Cruz but failed to act on the tip - The Washington Post

Florida school shooting: The FBI said it was warned about suspect Nikolas Cruz but failed to act on the tip - The Washington Post The FBI said Friday that more than a month before the shooting rampage at a South Florida high school, the bureau received a warning that the 19-year-old charged in the massacre might carry out an attack at a school — but then investigators failed to act on it. The startling disclosure came two days after police say Nikolas Cruz marched into his former high school in Parkland, Fla., and gunned down 17 people, most of them teenagers. In a  statement , the FBI said it received a tip on Jan. 5 from “a person close to Nikolas Cruz” reporting concerns about him. This person, who was not identified, told the FBI’s public tip line “about Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting,” the bureau said. Such a warning should have been ...

Launch of Superfast Russian Cargo Ship Mission Aborted at Last Minute

Launch of Superfast Russian Cargo Ship Mission Aborted at Last Minute The launch of a Russian cargo ship bound for the International Space Station was aborted in the final minute Sunday (Feb. 11), just as it was poised to fly the fastest resupply mission to the orbiting lab in history. The uncrewed Progress 69 resupply ship and its Russian-built Soyuz 2.1a rocket were just seconds away from launching into space from  Baikonur Cosmodrome  in Kazakhstan when the abort occurred. The spacecraft, known as Progress MS-08 in Russia, is carrying 3 tons of food, fuel and other supplies for the station's six-person Expedition 54 crew and  was scheduled to make a superfast 3.5-hour trip  to the orbiting lab after liftoff.
